For years, I haven’t been able to do these. I went to the gym today, took your advice to lift the handle up before crossing at the elbows, and I’ve just knocked out 15 consecutive side-swing crosses. I still look a bit clunky but I think I’ve now got the basic mechanics. Thank you.

Do you ever practice crossing your arms the opposite way? (right over left, instead of left over right)

Once upon a time I did basic running skip for 12 x 3min round with 1 minute between each round for calisthenics. This is what I did for basic martial arts warm up before the real lesson began. The Fighters used a heavy plastic rope instead of regular leather or speed rope. I did regular for 12 years and 3 years on heavy plastic.
